Suspect arrested for two sexual assaults. Police are asking for the public's help locating other possible victims.
On 7/7/09 a 29 year-old female called the San Diego Police Department to report she had been sexually assaulted. The victim met the suspect on 7/6/09 while she was walking near Bonita Road and Acacia and agreed to clean his house. The following day the suspect picked up the victim in the same area and drove her to a private residence in Rancho San Diego where he forced her to undress and then sexually assaulted her. After the assault, the suspect gave the victim some money and took her to San Ysidro. The victim then called the police to report the incident.
On 10/1/09 another incident occurred. The 40 year-old female victim was walking in the area of 500 Terra Nova (Chula Vista) at about 9:40 a.m. when the suspect pulled up next to her in his truck, asked her if she cleaned house, and then forced her into his vehicle. The suspect had what the victim believed to be a knife in his back pocket, and the victim feared he would hurt her if she fought back. The suspect drove the victim to a house in Rancho San Diego, forced her to undress, and sexually assaulted her at knifepoint. After the assault, the suspect allowed the victim to dress and then drove her back to the area from where he abducted her. Before the victim left, the suspect put money in her pocket. The victim called police to report the incident.
Detectives from the San Diego Police Department and the Chula Vista Police Department worked together during the investigation, and with the assistance of the SAFE Team, (Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement), were able to identify the suspect and determine where the incidents occurred. The suspect was identified as George Moreland, (46 years old), a registered sex offender.
On 11/9/09, detectives arrested Moreland. He was booked into the Chula Vista city jail with bail set at $325,000, and will be arraigned in South Bay Court on Thursday, 11/12/09.
Detectives believe there are other victims, and are asking anyone who may have been approached under similar circumstances to call their local law enforcement agency, or the Chula Vista Police Department at 691-5151.
