Benicia Fire Department to Conduct 9-11 Remembrance Event

Nine years after the terror attacks on America, citizens of Benicia will come together in a commemoration ceremony to honor the victims of September 11, 2001. The commemoration ceremony honors the FDNY victims of the attacks on the World Trade Center.

The City of Benicia Fire Department and the Benicia Firefighter's Association, IAFF Local 1186, are energizing the community to ensure that the 343 innocent victims, who so bravely gave their lives trying to save others that day, will never be forgotten.

The Memorial, being held at the gazebo in City Park (corner of First St. and Military) will begin with a broadcast over the Benicia Fire Department radio frequency at 8:46 A.M., commemorating the crash of American Airlines Flight 11 into the north tower of the World Trade Center. As in years past, there will be brief biographies and flags displayed for each of the 343 active duty, and 3 retired FDNY personnel that responded to render aid, then tragically perished when the towers collapsed.

The Benicia Firefighter's Association will also be collecting donations to help the families of those who made the supreme sacrifice in the performance of their duties during this tragedy. All donations will go directly to the New York Uniformed Firefighter's Widow's and Children's Fund.

The City of Benicia Fire Department and The Benicia Firefighter's Association encourage all to come by the memorial and help make sure that we never forget. The display will remain in place throughout the day.
