9:00 a.m. ---Discover Hartford Bicycling and Walking Tour: Mayor Pedro E. Segarra will share a few words before a moment of silence at 9:11 a.m. to honor and remember those who lost their lives in the Attacks on America. This takes place on the steps of the State Department of Environmental Protection on Elm Street at Bushnell Park in Downtown Hartford. (This time to pause and reflect is in addition to the 8:46 a.m. moment of silence to symbolize when the first plane hit the Twin Towers in New York City).
The biking and walking tours will then start at 9:15 a.m. This celebration of our historic parks and diverse neighborhoods continues until 2:00 p.m. This is a Hartford 375 event--- marking the Capital City’s 375th anniversary.
11:00 a.m. --- 8th Annual Grandparents Day Fair: This event also takes place at Bushnell Park, near the Carousel. The City of Hartford celebrates this day in honor of the more than 2,000 grandparents who are raising their grandchildren in Hartford and the more than 18,000 grandparents raising kin in the State of Connecticut. This event is sponsored by the City’s Department of Health and Human Services.
12:00 p.m. --- Lift Every Voice and Sing Gospel Festival and Fair: There’s even more family fun scheduled for historic Bushnell Park! LEVAS celebrates its 15th Annual event!
6:30 p.m. --- Sculpture Dedication: The Mayor will also attend the dedication of a new piece of artwork on Riverfront Plaza at the pedestrian walkway from the Connecticut Science Center to the Plaza. Artist Don Gummer’s “Right to Rise” will be presented to Riverfront Recapture.
