Drought Watch Issued for New Jersey

This is to inform you that DEP Commissioner Bob Martin will be expanding the Drought Watch designation to the entire state this afternoon. This action is based on the unseasonably hot, dry conditions that persisted through summer into September, and the consequent impact on water demands, reservoir storage, stream flows, and unconfined ground water levels throughout the state.
This step is being taken to raise public awareness and encourage voluntary water conservation, and we respectfully request your assistance to help preserve available water supplies in the avoidance of a critical water shortage.
