Benicia Police Department Open House, September 25, 2009

Benicia Police Chief Sandra Spagnoli and members of the Benicia Police Department invite citizens of our community to go behind the scenes and get an up close look at the Benicia Police Department on Saturday, September 25th, between 11 am and 3 pm.

Included in this event are tours of the police department, such as the emergency dispatch center and jail cells, along with displays of various department services such as SWAT and their equipment, the department's K-9 and Traffic Units, our Bicycle Patrol Officers, and the inside workings of an actual emergency police vehicle. The K9 team will perform demonstrations at 11:30 am, 12:30 pm, and 1:30 pm. The Traffic Unit, and their two Harley Davidson motorcycles, will perform for the crowd at noon, 1pm, and 2 pm.

The Police Department will also have tables set up that will provide information on the Family Resource Center, Drug Abuse Resistence Education (DARE) - a program taught in elementary schools by the department's School Resource Officers, children's fingerprint kits, and both the 9-1-1 For Kids and 9-1-1 Cares programs that teach young children how to dial 91-1- in an emergency. Information on how to establish a Neighborhood Watch Program will also be available.

To complete the Open House experience, the Benicia Police Officers Association and the Benicia Dispatch Association will be providing free grilled hot dogs, chips, and sodas.

"This is a great opportunity for our community to gain insight into how their police department works," Chief Spagnoli said. "We are very proud of the services we provide and want to share information on these services with our citizens."
