Subject: Domestic Violence Suspect is arrested in Oakland after a successful investigation


Suspect: Damon Thomas Sykes, 36 years old, transient out of Oakland



NARRATIVE:

On 8/22/10, officers responded to the 1300 block of S. Main Street for an aggravated domestic violence assault which just occurred. They located the victim with a broken nose and other injuries. The victim was transported to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek via ambulance. Officers learned the suspect (later identified as Damon Sykes) had fled the scene prior to their arrival. The victim and Sykes were in a dating relationship and were driving from San Ramon to Oakland when the assault occurred. Sykes drove his vehicle into Walnut Creek where he proceeded to push the victim out of the vehicle in the 1300 block of S. Main Street. Sykes then attempted to run the victim over with his vehicle. The victim was able to move out of the way of the vehicle to avoid being struck. Witnesses called WCPD to report the incident. WCPD Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Sykes.

On 9/2/2010, detectives received a tip to the location of where Sykes was hiding in Oakland. Detectives responded to Oakland and located Sykes’ vehicle. With the help from Oakland Police Department, detectives set up surveillance on the vehicle. At approximately, 1200 hours, Sykes returned to his vehicle. OPD and WCPD attempted to stop Sykes but he fled in his vehicle. OPD pursued Sykes where he was eventually apprehended on Folger Avenue in Berkeley. WCPD Detectives arrested Sykes on the domestic violence warrant and transported him to Martinez Detention Facility where he is being held on a $213,000 warrant.
