Advisory

Possible suspicious activity by door to door salesmen in south Amarillo, within the last two hours.

Possible suspicious activity, south Amarillo, door-to- door salesmen, within the last two hours.
A caller reported that door-to-door salesmen came to his home in southwest Amarillo within the last two hours. He described one as a female identifying herself as a representative for a carpet cleaner company. She was given permission for technicians to demonstrate the appliance. During the in-home demonstration, one man was allowed to use the citizen's cell phone, explaining that his was "dead." The citizen allowed him to make a call to a local number. He later saw the man apparently using his own cell phone, and questions the real need or reason for the use of his (citizen's) phone.
Remember, door-to-door solicitors in Amarillo must REGISTER with the police department, and must each carry this registration and show it to a citizen that requests it. We do not know if these salesmen are in compliance with this law.
Though we do not know that any crime was committed in this incident, the circumstances may be of interest and uniformed officers have been provided with a description of the vehicle involved.
Remember, you can ask to view a copy of the salesman's City of Amarillo registration and the government identification used to register.
