Hurricane Earl is now a Category 4; Tropical Storm Fiona forms in the tropics. 
WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Hurricane Earl continued to intensify on Monday afternoon as it moved just north of the Leeward Islands.
On Earl's heels, Tropical Storm Fiona formed in the Atlantic. The storm is expected to remain weak as it stalls behind Earl.

Maximum sustained winds with Earl are estimated to be near 135 mph. The storm is classified as a category 4 storm on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind scale.
While the forecast track does take the Earl east of Cape Fear, some effects may be felt around the region.
Scattered showers from a few of Earl's outer rain bands may be felt late Thursday night and Friday morning. Some brief periods of gusty winds may be possible.
The biggest threat from Hurricane Earl will be in the form of rough surf and large waves.
In the far north Atlantic, Hurricane Danielle weakened into Tropical Storm Danielle as it moves into cooler waters and is expected to become extratropical, losing its tropical characteristics.
