HARPER WOOODS POLICE HAVE ARRESTED A 15 YEAR OLD JUVENILE FOR POSSESSION OF A LOADED HANDGUN.

Yesterday, shortly after 3:00 pm, a Harper Woods patrol officer was flagged down by a citizen who reported a suspicious person standing in the alley near Harper and Parkcrest. The resident described the suspect to the officer including the fact he was wearing a heavy winter coat and hat and appeared to be holding something under his jacket.

Officer Jon Henninger and our rookie Officer Justin Reeves located the suspect near Harper and Woodmont. As they approached him, he fled on foot, running towards the rear of Cottage Belmont nursing home. Officers Reeves and Henninger pursued the suspect and as he was running from the officers, he threw a handgun over a privacy fence into a rear yard on Woodmont.

The suspect ran into the nursing home and was arrested by our officers after he was found hiding in a bathroom of a patient’s room. The suspect was taken into custody and brought to the police station.

Harper Woods police officers recovered a loaded .25 caliber handgun from the rear yard of the home on Woodmont.

The suspect was identified as a 15 year old juvenile resident of Detroit. He was taken to the Wayne County Youth Home pending further court action. Anyone with information about this or any other crime in Harper Woods is asked to contact the department or CRIMESTOPPERS at 1-800-SPEAKUP.
