Suspect arrested after car chase
At approximately 10:30am, August 26, APD COPPS officers had spotted up on a residence in the San Jacinto neighborhood looking for a wanted subject. Officers observed a white 1990 Chrysler leave the residence with a male subject driving. This subject was Antonio Rocky Bustos H/M 32 of Amarillo, who had two outstanding warrants for his arrest (Evading Arrest in a Motor Vehicle – Felony, and DUI – misdemeanor). Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, however the driver refused to stop and a pursuit began. The pursuit went through the neighborhoods of San Jacinto and Sunset Terrace addition, before heading south on Avondale over I-40. Officers backed off the suspect because of safety concerns for other citizens. Witnesses continued to give locations and direction of travel as officers were in the area. Officers were directed to the area of 42nd and S. Bowie by neighbors and witnesses. A DPS trooper located the vehicle abandon in an alley near 42nd & Bowie. Officers again set up a perimeter covering two to three blocks and began searching the area on foot. Again, neighbors called the police and gave locations of where the suspect was last seen and what direction he was last seen heading. Officers were directed to the 4300 block of S. Travis where the searched intensified. Officers located a residence that they believed housed the suspect. Bustos apparently forced his way into this residence and would not let the homeowner answer repeated knocks at the door by officers. Officers were finally able to get the door open and were allowed inside. Officers located Mr. Bustos hiding in a garage apartment; he was taken into custody without any further incident. Bustos was booked into the Randall County Jail on several charges; Burglary of a Habitation, Unlawful Restraint, Evading Arrest in a Motor Vehicle, plus the two outstanding warrants.
