The Naples Police Department has an important message for you! **(Halloween Safety Tips)**.

Halloween is only a few days away
Kids and their parents are making the final additions to costumes and mapping out a plan to score the most candy.
On the big day we want witches, ghosts, pirates and ghouls to be the only thing scary that night.

The Naples Police offer these tips to help ensure everyone has a scary, but safe, Halloween.

For Parents:
* Remind your children to never go into a stranger's home, ever.
* Parents should accompany young children at all times.
* Trick-or-treat in groups if possible.
* Map out the route you plan to take while trick-or-treating. Check the route against the FDLE online sex offender database
* Make sure your children know the planned route and designate a meeting place in the event you become separated.
* Stay in your own neighborhood or one you and your children are familiar with.
* Use light colored materials for costumes, preferably with reflective material.
* Make sure you have a reliable flashlight, light stick or other device to ensure you are easily seen as it gets dark.
* Stick to well lit houses or houses decorated for the occasion. Please be considerate of those whose lights are off or choose not to participate.
* Remember, using make up instead of a mask will make it easier to see for children to see.
* Try to go out earlier in the evening, start early - end early.
* Make sure your children understand they are not to eat anything until you have thoroughly inspected it.

For Kids:
* Do not go into a stranger's house, ever. It does not matter what the person says, stay outside the door at all times.
* As you walk around, especially crossing the street, be very careful of cars. Depending on your costume, they may not see you very well.
* Do not accept any treats which are not securely wrapped. Do not eat any treats until your parents have checked them and said it is okay.
* Walk in well lit areas and trick-or-treat with a group of friends.

The most important thing to remember is to go out on Halloween and have fun. Naples Police will have extra police officers assigned to areas with trick-or-treaters throughout the evening.
