Media Release: Resisting Arrest, Escape III

Details: On August 23, 2010 at about 12:55 a.m., Newport Police Officers were dispatched to a reported theft on the fishing pier located at the South Beach Marina. Officers contacted the complainant David Sigler, who wanted to report that someone had stolen his clothes. The investigation by Officers revealed that nothing had been stol en from Sigler. According to the Officers, Sigler was showing signs of being under the influence of some type of narcotic. He was erra tic and irrational, and exhibited dramatic mood changes. While Officers were speak ing with Sigler he began to yell, accusing other patrons on the pier of stealing his belongings. Sigler then began to charge at one patron , accusing him of theft. Officers attempted to detain Sigler but he was able to break fr ee and run to the end of the pier towards Yaquina Bay where he jumped into the water. The United States Coast Guard was notified and responded to assist with pulling Sigler from the Bay. Newport Police were also assisted by the Newport Fire Department. Sigler was taken into custody and transported to Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital for medical evaluat ion. Once cleared at the hospital, he was transported to the Linc oln County Jail where he was lodged on charges of Resisting Arrest, Escape in the Third Degree, Disorderly Conduct in the 2 nd Degree, and Offensive Littering. His bail was set at $130,000.
