DETAILS: At 9:30 PM, on Thursday August 19, 2010, Officers were dispatched to 2426 N. Redwood on a report of a child being shot. Upon arrival the officers found that a W/F 22 months old had been shot a single time in the head. Adults at the house were performing CPR on the little girl. The young girl was taken to a local hospital where she underwent surgery and is currently listed in extremely critical condition. The Special Crimes Unit was notified and is conducting an investigation of this incident along with Child Protective Services. It has been determined that children in the house located a revolver in a closet and began to play with the loaded weapon. A single shot was fired by a child under 10 yrs old. There were two adults present when this occurred, but they were outside when the incident occurred. Due to the child being less than 10 years of age the child is not criminally responsible. The investigation of this incident is ongoing at the time of this release. Everyone is reminded to unload weapons, lock them in a secure place or place a trigger lock on them when children are present in the house.



UPDATE***** On Saturday August 21, 2010, at approximately 2 PM. Danica Nicole Bowles, W/F 22 months old, was declared dead. Danica was left on life support after her next of kin decided to make a life gift of Danica organs. The life gift surgery was completed early Monday morning. Justice of the Peace Nancy Bosquez ordered an autopsy which will be performed in Lubbock, Texas on Tuesday.
