LARGO VISTA FIRE 40% contained- Largo Vista Rd. and Big Pines Highway, Valyermo (Angeles National Forest)

The "Largo Vista Fire" was reported at about 3:00PM, today, Friday, Aug. 20. It reportedly originated in the area of Largo Vista Rd. and Big Pines Highway, Valyermo (Angeles National Forest).

As of 6:00PM, per the U.S. Forest Service, the fire is 40% contained.

This brush fire has burned over 110 acres and structures in the area have been threatened. Wind gusts are about 25 miles per hour and it is about 95 degrees.

Firefighters from the U.S. Forest Service, Los Angeles County Fire Department, and Cal Fire are actively fighting this fire, assisted by fire department water dropping helicopters and aircraft.

Per the U.S. Forest Service, one U.S. Forest Service firefighter was injured and taken to the hospital. His condition is not known.

Mandatory evacuations by Palmdale sheriff's deputies have not occurred. However, sheriff's deputies have assisted area residents with voluntary self-initiated evacuations in the community of Largo Vista.

Sheriff's deputies have established traffic control checkpoints at several locations, in order to allow only residents into the community of Largo Vista:

1. On Big Pines Highway, 3 miles west of Largo Vista Road.

2. On Big Pines Highway, 1 mile east of Largo Vista Rd.

3. On Largo Vista Rd., 3 miles south of Big Pines Hwy.

Valyermo is in the Angeles National Forest and is an unincorporated area patrolled by the Palmdale Sheriff's Station of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
