Eastern Pike Regional Police Department Launches On-line Bicycle Registration Program

The Eastern Pike Regional Police Department has announced a new On-line Bicycle Registration Program that provides essential information regarding your bicycle that can be used to assist the department in your bikes recovery. The service, located at the Eastern Pike Regional Police Department’s Web site at http://www . eprpd.org is available now.

Between 2008 and 2009 nearly 23 bicycles were reported stolen to our department. In an effort to curtail thefts and recover bicycles we implemented this bicycle registration program.

Your registration provides us with the necessary information so that if your bike is ever stolen, we would have a record of the serial number when you call to make your report. Having your serial number on hand allows us to enter your stolen bicycle into a law enforcement database that is accessible to law enforcement across the country.

Important Things To Remember

If your bike is stolen...

Report any stolen property immediately to the Eastern Pike Regional Police Department at 570-491-4040 or 570-296-7700.

Have your bicycle registration number ready and other identification information ready.

Why is a Serial Number Important?

Serial numbers are a set of characters that uniquely identify an object and can be used for traceability and warranty purposes. Serial numbers, however, are especially important when reporting stolen items, such as bicycles. A serial number is a method to enter the bicycle in our state and nationwide computerized record system as stolen.

Input of your stolen bicycle into these databases increases your chances of having your bicycle returned, and makes it possible to file charges against the person in possession of the bike.

What if I sell my bike?

If you sell your bike after you have enrolled with the Eastern Pike Regional Police Department Bike Registration Program, contact Corporal Matthew McCormack at 570-491-4040 to notify us of the transfer.

Lastly, don't forget:

· Always wear a helmet. Pennsylvania Law requires anyone under the age of 12 to wear a helmet.

· Always lock up your bike. Whether you use a bike lock or place it in a storage space, keep it under lock and key!

· Ride your bike safely. Always follow the rules of the road and be sure to keep a watchful eye on young riders.
