Sheriff's Detectives seize $4.5 million in Marijuana plants, 12 guns, 5 homes, and arrest 9 in the San Gabriel Valley


Operation Safe Streets Bureau detectives of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department served search warrants on five homes in the west San Gabriel Valley on Tuesday, August 17, during a marijuana cultivation investigation. They were assisted by deputies from the Sheriff’s Narcotics Bureau, Temple Station, and Industry Station.

By the end of the night, the evidence included approximately 2,000 marijuana plants valued at over $4.5 M, along with Ketamine and Ecstacy. Twelve firearms including three assault weapons, a shotgun, and eight handguns were seized.

The warrants were served as the result of a one-month investigation. Nine suspects were arrested for marijuana cultivation and related charges. The homes are located in nice residential areas and include:


1.5300 block of Fratus Drive, Temple City; marijuana grow house. Two people were arrested for cultivation of marijuana.

2. 700 block of East Central Avenue, San Gabriel; marijuana grow house. Numerous weapons were seized. One person arrested for cultivation of marijuana.

3. 4900 block of Persimmom Avenue, Temple City; marijuana grow house. Two people were arrested for cultivation of marijuana.

4. 7700 block of Dellrose Avenue, Rosemead; controlled substances (Ketamine and Ecstacy) and large trash bags filled with dried marijuana were seized. Two people were arrested for possession of narcotics for sale.

5. 8900 block of Fairview Avenue, (unincorporated) San Gabriel; marijuana grow house. Two people were arrested for cultivation of marijuana.

All nine suspects were booked at Temple Sheriff’s Station of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. There are six males and three females in custody pending further investigation. One suspect is a U.S. Citizen and one is a legal resident. The other seven are in the U.S. on work visas. The following is a list of those arrested;


1. Minh Han Luu, male Chinese, 49, resident of West Covina.

2. Xiao Dong Li, male Chinese, 43, resident of San Francisco.

3. Ningwan Chai, female Chinese, 57, resident of San Gabriel.

4. Cui Fang Liu, female Chinese, 34, resident of Temple City.

5. Binh Hoc Phung, male Chinese-Vietnamese, 44, resident of Temple City.

6. Tommy Phuoc Nguyen, male Chinese-Vietnamese, 21, resident of Hacienda Heights.

7. Hoa Huc Phung, male Chinese, 47, resident of Rosemead.

8. Wei Huang, male Chinese, 27, resident of San Gabriel.

9. We Yang, female Chinese, 27, resident of Rosemead.


“This major drug dealing operation is out of business,” said Lt. Doug Fetteroll, Sheriff’s Operation Safe Streets Bureau.

The case will be presented to the Los Angeles County District attorney on Thursday, August 18, 2010.
