Hit & Run Crash

On 08/07/2010 at 13:12hrs., Reporting Office was dispatched to 1415 Old Princeton Road for a reported damage to a mailbox. Upon STPD arrival, officers spoke with Larry Shaffer. Shaffer related that between 11:00am and 12:30pm. this date, An unknown actor ran over his mailbox with a vehicle and left the scene. The mailbox was damaged and needs to be replaced A silverish, passenger side mirror was located on the side off the road near the mailbox.The estimate damage of the mailbox is $40.00


On 08-16-10 at 1345hrs, the Shenango Township police department met a Mr. James Mccormick of 3000 Old Butler Rd. New Castle, Pa. 16101 on station in reference to a burglary. Mr. Mccormick related that an unknown actor broke into his old farm house located on his property at 3000 Old Butler Rd. New Castle, Pa. 16101 which sits near the Hoover Road intersection on two separate occasions. Mr. Mccormick related that the actor removed the banister from the residence leaving two pieces behind. The value of the banister is estimated at $300.00 dollars.


On Saturday, August 14, 2010 at 10:34 hours STPD was dispatched to 1803 Stanton Avenue for a attempted burglary complaint. On scene STPD meet with John Wiseman who is the church pastor. Wiseman reported that sometime overnight someone attempted to gain entry into the church through a rear basement door. Wiseman stated that the door was secured at the time of the incident. Wiseman stated that it did not appear that anyone entered the church. Wiseman also reported nothing missing. Officers did observe the damage to the church door. The door is located in the rear of the church. The door leads into the Churchs basement. The church basement is where Sunday school class rooms are located. It was apparent that the actor or actors attempted to force the door open, causing damage


On 08-07-10 at 2257hrs, the Shenango Township Police Department while on patrol was checking the vacant house located near the intersection of Countyline Road and Fairground Road do to numerous breakins at the residence. While checking the residence I observed that an unknown actor had broke out the window to the back door of the residence to gain entry into the residence. The residence is owned by Mr. Raymond Buchowski of 1965 Frew Mill Rd. New Castle, Pa. 16101. The actors had already left the residence in an unknown direction of travel. The scene was processed for physical evidence.


On 08/11/2010 at 0749 hours, STPD was dispatched to 2636 Ellwood Road to investigate a burglary. Upon arrival STPD spoke with Andrew Koginos who works and maintenance for the Shenango Plaza. He stated that he placed a Eco weed wacker inside the building on 08-10-10 and when he returned to work on 08-11-10 the weed wacker was missing. He discovered that the rear door to this building was open. It appears that someone had pried open this door causing moderate damage to the door. The damage on the door appeared to be old. There was no evidence of fresh marks on this door. This building is owned by Ellwood Road LLC,12121 Wilshire Blvd,Los Angeles,Ca.90025


On August 13, 2010 at 15:35 hours STPD was dispatched to 2611 Ellwood Road, the Goodwill Store for a motor vehicle crash. On scene STPD meet with both parties involved. The operator of Unit # 1 identified as Cyndi Boots,W/N F 33, 542 Glen Avenue, Ellwood City, PA reported that she struck unit # 2 while pulling out from a parked position. After the crash Boots immediately stopped her vehicle and contacted the vehicle owner. The vehicle owner of Unit # 2 was identified as Diane Gallo,W/N F 58, 412 North Liberty Street, New Castle, PA. Gallo was not near her vehicle at the time of crash. All parties involved reported no injuries. Both vehicles were driven from the scene.


On August 14, 2010 at 12:27 hours STPD was dispatched to a motor vehicle crash located at the intersection of Old Pittsburgh Road at Shenango Stop Road. Marisa Biddle, W/N-F 51, 106 Savannah Road, New Castle, PA was traveling east on Old Pittsburgh Road in a 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier. Near the intersection of Shenango Stop Road Frank Medure, W/N-M 59, 917 Woodland Avenue, New Castle, PA pulled into Biddle’s lane of travel in his 2011 Ford Econoline van. Medure struck Biddle’s vehicle. Medure was traveling south on Shenango Stop Road. Neither party involved reported any injuries. Both vehicles were driven from the scene.


On August 14, 2010 at 17:06 hours Steven Waskin, W/N- M 20, 225 Patrick Drive , New Castle, PA lost control of his motorcycle and crashed. Waskin was traveling east on State Route 422 (bypass) near the Martha Street bridge. Near the bridge Waskin reported that his motorcycle hydroplaned and he jumped from his bike and slid. Waskin reported that he was traveling approximately 60 mph prior to crashing. The roadway was wet and it was excessively raining when the crash occurred. No injuries were reported and the motorcycle was driven from the scene.


On 08/12/2010 at 19:00hrs., STPD was requested to view the damage done to the yard at 208 Aiken Road. STPD spoke with the complainant, Joanne Decarbo, who stated that sometime this date a semi truck damaged two separate spots in her yard. STPD observed where a semi truck attempted to turn around on Aiken Road at Orchard Dale Estates. The truck pulled off the roadway and into DeCarbo’s yard leaving deep ruts about five feet into the yard. The truck then pulled onto Orchard Dale and backed out onto Aiken Road. The truck then backed into the yard on the other side of Decarbo’s driveway leaving more ruts and broke branches off a tree. The truck also struck the mailbox. No information on the truck was obtained. There were no witnesses to this incident.


On 08-16-10 at 0910hrs, the Shenango Township police department met a Mr. Robert Fleming W/M/ of Aiken Rd. New Castle, Pa. 16101 on station in reference to an identity theft incident. Mr. Fleming related that an unknown actor rented a car from the Enterprise Rent-A-Car company located at the Atlanta Airport at 2351 Rental Car center Pkwy College Park, Ga. 30337 on 02-17-10 at 1201hrs and was returned back on 02-19-10 at 0619hrs to the Atlanta Airport. The total amount is $175.78 Mr. Fleming related that he didn’t rent this vehicle nor does he know who may have rented the vehicle.


On 8/9/10 at 23:00 hrs. STPD observed a silver in color Hyundai SUV parked at the dead end road at Deshon Road. The area is commonly known as a high activity drug, prostitution area and illegal dumping. Several people were in the vehicle and they were moving around. The vehicle was subsequently stopped and suspected marijuana, pills and cash was confiscated. Charges are pending against one 25 year old male and two nineteen year old females, all from New Castle


On 08/13/2010 at 2330 hours, STPD was dispatched to 3802 New Butler Road (Sheetz) to respond to a report of public drunkenness. Dameon P. Hockenberry, W/N-M 33, 2821 Penn Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA and Tyler L. Hockenberry, W/N- 26, 102 Orchard Valley Lane, Harmony, PA were both cited for public drunkenness.
