POLICE INVESTIGATE CITY’S SEVENTEENTH HOMICIDE

At about 6:15 A.M. Sunday, August 8, 2010, police and medics responded to the 600 block of 45th Street to a report of a shooting. Upon arrival they located a male victim suffering what appears to be a gunshot wound(s) to his neck area. Medics pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

The victim is a 33-year-old male with no known permanent address. Once family members have been properly notified his identity will be released.

Detectives have learned that this single family dwelling functions as a “shot-house”. Apparently, there was a dispute between the victim and others inside the residence and the victim was shot.

There is no definitive suspect information and no known motive at this time.

The investigation is ongoing and detectives are asking anyone with information to call Newport News Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP. Crime Line callers may remain totally anonymous, are never required to testify in court and could be eligible for a cash reward if their information leads to an arrest. Information may also be sent by text message to nocrime@nngov.com .
