MAN DIES AFTER BEING STABBED--VICTIMS WIFE CHARGED WITH MURDER

About 1:07 A.M., Thursday, August 12, 2010, Police Communications received a call for an injured person outside of a residence 700 block of 30th Street. When police and medics arrived they located a fifty-six-year-old man suffering from what appeared to be a stab wound to the chest. Medics transported the victim to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead at 1:51 A.M.



The preliminary information indicates that, apparently there was a gathering in the back yard. The victim went inside the residence. At some point the doorbell rang. When the victim did not return someone went to find him and found him lying in front of the residence.



Homicide detectives have arrested the victim’s wife, Betty Hill Ellis-Gholson, 58, of the residence and charged her with murder and use of a knife in the commission of a felony. She has been placed in the custody of the Newport News City Jail.

The victim is identified as Larry Ellis Gholson, 56, of the residence.
