Gloucester Township Graffiti Camera Aids In Solving Spray Painting Incident.

INCIDENT: Gloucester Township Grafitti Camera Aids In Solving Spray Painting Incident.

LOCATION: Route 42 Overpass in Blenheim

CASE #: 10-30358

As a result of complaints received by residents of grafitti being spray painted under the Rt. 42 overpass by Woodland Ave in Blenhiem, NJ, the Gloucester Township Police Department deployed a new grafitti camera in an effort to thwart any further acts of grafitti and identify those who may be involved.

Almost immediately upon deployment of the grafitti camera, numerous images were captured of individuals traveling through the area by way of a paved bike path.

Several of these individuals were depicted carrying trash and other items which were later found discarded in the immediate area of where the grafitti was located. With the help of these pictures, Gloucester Township Police Detectives began interviewing subjects in the area and ultimately identified two juveniles who were responsible for the grafitti in that area. These two juveniles, ages 14 and 15, were both charged with one count each of criminal mischief.

The Grafitti Camera is a new device that aids in the detection and prevention of criminal acts. A stand alone system, it emits a verbal warning and takes a digital picture of an individual(s) who set off a motion detector and stores these images.
