Sheriff Keith Nygren announced today that at approximately 5:56 A.M. on August 8, 2010, members of the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, Woodstock Police, and Woodstock Fire/Rescue District responded to a motorcycle versus car traffic crash with injuries in the 9000 block of Route 14.

Preliminary investigation indicates that a 2008 special constructed motorcycle was traveling northwest on Route 14 at a high rate of speed when it collided with the rear of a 2006 Volkswagon that was also traveling northwest on Route 14. After the collision, the motorcycle crossed over the eastbound lane of Route 14 and came to rest on the south side of the road.

The driver of the motorcycle, Lucas C. Declereq, 32, came to rest on the shoulder of Route 14 near his motorcycle. The driver of the Volkswagon, Rodd A. Strubing, 54 was able to pull his vehicle off the the north shoulder of Route 14 after the collision. He was not injured in the crash and was wearing his seatbelt at the time. The airbags did not deploy in the Volkswagon.

Lucas Declereq, the operator of the motorcycle was airlifted by Flight for Life to Advocated Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. He is listed in fair condition and was subsequently charged with DUI as a result of the crash. Lucas was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. The investigation is continuing by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Crash Investigations Unit.
