Saturday August 7th, 2010 :: 11:00 a.m. EDT

At approximately 4:22 A.M Saturday, August 7, 2010, police and medics responded to a call for a man who had reportedly attempted to scale a fence at a business in the 11200 block of Jefferson Avenue and had become lodged on the fence.

When emergency personnel arrived they discovered that a twenty-six-year-old Newport News man’s head had become trapped between two vertical bars of a metal fence. Due to the height of the fence, his feet were not on the ground. Medics pronounced the man dead at the scene. The victim was removed from the fence by the fire department and was transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Norfolk for examination and determination of the cause of death.

Detectives have determined that the victim and his girlfriend had some type of a dispute as they were traveling in their truck and that the victim pulled into the parking lot, got out of the truck and climbed onto the fence.

Due to the circumstances of this event, the victim’s identity will not be released.
