Extreme Heat Advisory in effect for Eastern North Carolina Thursday

The National Weather Service Newport/Morehead City has issued an Extreme Heat Advisory for Eastern North Carolina, including Carteret County for Thursday.

The combination of heat and humidity will produce dangerous heat index values around 105 degrees Thursday afternoon.

Don't forget your pets. Without water and shade, they suffer from the heat the same as we do. Also, remember that even 5 minutes inside a car without the air conditioner running can cause the temperature to rise over 20 degrees and be deadly to a child or pet. Leaving windows cracked while you are away will not prevent the inside of the car from heating up. Never leave children or pets in a vehicle while you are away from it.
