Information Release Regarding Assault

Community Message

I have received some inquires from the public regarding an incident that occurred last week. The purpose of this release is to put the rumors regarding this incident to rest.

On July 28, 2010, at 10:25 PM there was a fight reported on Woodside in Harper Woods. Upon arrival responding officers found a 17 year old Warren resident and a 14 year old Detroit resident who had been badly beaten. The investigation revealed that the persons responsible were Harper Woods residents between the ages of 14 to 17. The officers were able to identify all of the responsible parties and the first arrest was made that evening. Over the next two days all of the responsible parties had been taken into custody and have now been charged and arraigned.

The fight apparently started at a party at the Woodside location which the victims and perpetrators were attending. An argument ensued and the two victims attempted to leave the location and were stopped by the group that assaulted them. There were no weapons involved and at the present time the victims have both been released from the hospital. The perpetrators have all been charged with felony aggravated assault. This information was not released earlier to avoid jeopardizing the investigation and apprehension of the responsible parties.
