On Tuesday, August 3th, neighborhoods throughout Portsmouth will be joining forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the 27th Annual National Night Out Against Crime (NNO). This year marks the 16th year that Portsmouth will participate in this national event and the first year of sponsorship by Portsmouth Rotary. Over the years National Night Out has strengthened the connection between neighborhood residents and the men and women of the police department who serve and protect them.

This evening outdoors is designed to strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships, and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and aware. The Portsmouth Fire Department, Public Works Department and the Portsmouth School Department are all active participants in National Night Out.

From 5:30PM to 8:30PM on August 3th, residents in neighborhoods throughout Portsmouth will spend the evening outside with neighbors as well as police, fire, public works, school, and elected officials. Many neighborhoods throughout Portsmouth will be hosting a variety of special events such as block parties, cookouts, parades, contests, youth activities and games.
