National Night Out – Building Safer Neighborhoods!

The Clallam County Sheriff’s Department invites all citizens to join with their neighbors by participating in the “27th Annual National Night Out” crime and drug prevention event on Tuesday, August 3rd. Neighbors are encouraged to meet and work together to make their neighborhood safe.

Local residents in neighborhoods throughout the Olympic Peninsula are encouraged to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and if possible, spend the evening outside with neighbors from 6 to 9 p.m. Here are some suggested activities:

1) Get to know your neighbors by organizing a neighborhood party, barbeque cookout or flashlight tour to identify things that you can do to make your neighborhood safer.

2) If you’ve had the “Map your Neighborhood Training”, review and update your maps and neighbor information. It could save a life during an emergency.

3) If you haven’t taken the Map Your Neighborhood Training, contact the Sheriff’s Office for more information on this important free program.

4) Using a flashlight and wearing visible clothing, walk your neighborhood with neighbors to make sure that all the green reflective address signs are readily visible, so that first responders can quickly locate homes and people needing assistance.

5) You can even request that a deputy stop by and meet with you to provide information on any issue or concerns that you might have.

National Night Out is a fun way to meet and work with your neighbors to keep your neighborhoods safe and secure. Every neighborhood is different and this is a great opportunity to practice that it is “Working together that Works”.

If your neighborhood is going to participate in the National Night Out, please let us know if we can provide any support for your efforts. You can contact the Sheriff’s Department by calling 417-2376 or by emailing: [email protected].

Citizen ideas and suggestions are encouraged and welcomed. As always, the members of your Sheriff’s Department sincerely appreciate your help in making our community safer.
