**Pima County Records its First Fatality from H1N1 for the Fall Flu**.
**Tucson, Arizona – October 9, 2009 – The Pima County Health Department has received confirmation from the Arizona Department of Health Services of its first H1N1 death for the fall
influenza season. The young adult male, who passed away early in October, also suffered from compromising respiratory issues. For calendar year 2009, number of Pima County deaths from the H1N1 virus now stands at 3. It was during the spring outbreak that two medically compromised pre-teens succumbed to the virus.
The Health Department is urging residents to get the seasonal flu vaccine now. H1N1 vaccine is available to specific populations through the Health Department’s regularly scheduled clinics. Currently, those approved to receive the live attenuated influenza vaccine, which is administered via a nasal spray, are children and young adults two (2) to 24 years of age, health care workers less than 50 years old, and adults less than 50 who care for infants younger than six (6) months old.
Please continue to practice these prevention tips: cough or sneeze into your sleeve or a tissue, dispose of the tissue and wash your hands; wash your hands thoroughly and often; stay home when sick; make a plan on what to do if you or someone you care for becomes ill.
