Sheriff’s Office Investigates Vehicle Versus Pedestrian Traffic Crash July 26, 2010

Sheriff Keith Nygren announced today that at approximately 12:15 A.M. on July 26, 2010, members of the McHenry City Police Department, McHenry Township Fire Protection District, and McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene of a vehicle versus pedestrian crash that occurred within the 1700 block of Illinois Route 120, east of Hill Road, in unincorporated McHenry Township.

Preliminary investigation indicated that a 1997 Lincoln Town Car was headed eastbound, within the 1700 block of Illinois Route 120, at which time it struck a pedestrian whom had been walking westbound within the southernmost eastbound lane. The driver of the Lincoln, Joan M. Pahlman, was uninjured as a result of the crash. The pedestrian, Darla D. Wilkinson, was flown by Flight for Life to Advocate Condell Medical Center where she remains in critical condition. No airbags deployed as a result of the crash and Pahlman had been wearing a safety belt. Wilkinson, who is suspected of being intoxicated at the time of the crash, was wearing white shoes, blue jeans, and a black hooded sweatshirt.

The accident is under investigation by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Unit. Sheriff Keith Nygren
