Boxborough Fire Chief Geoffrey Neagle and Boxborough Police Chief Warren Ryder are proud to announce the creation of a Child Passenger Safety program. This program is designed to help parents and guardians to properly install and secure car seats and booster seats FREE OF CHARGE.

Recently, Officer Patrick Colburn, Fire Lieutenant Shawn Gray, and Firefighter/EMT Jason Malinowski attended a national certification course to be certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians. Warren Ryder, Chief of Police commented, "I'm proud that both the Police and Fire Department can work together to provide this free service to our community."

Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death among children ages 3 to 14 in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). An average of 4 children, age 15 and younger, were killed and 684 injured in motor vehicle crashes each day across the United States in 2008. Even a sudden stop can seriously injure a child who is not riding securely in the right type of child safety seat. Fire Chief Geoffrey Neagle emphasized the proper use of child safety seats, "Proper installation and use of child safety seats is a proven way to save lives. I urge residents to take advantage of this program provided to the community."

Appointments are available seven days a week, on a first come-first serve basis, and can be scheduled on both the Fire and Police Department's websites (www.boxboroughfire.com and www.boxboroughpolice.com). Appointments usually last 30 - 60 minutes, depending on the number and complexity of the seat installation. Additional information is available on each Department's website.
