Man Runs Stop Sign--Collides with Dallas Police Car
On 7/23/2010 at 11:20 pm arrestee Stephen Michael Jones W/M/01-14-91 was fleeing the scene of a major a accident that he caused at St. Mary Ave. and Lindsley Ave. He was traveling westbound in a 2002 Saturn in the 5200 block of treemont when he ran a stop sign and collided with a marked Dallas Police squad car. The suspect t-boned the squad car in the passenger door where Senior Corporal Cynthia Arispe was sitting. The squad car was being driven by Officer Calvin Scudder. The officers were travelling NB on Munger at Treemont when they were struck. Both officers were transported to Baylor hospital with injuries. Both officers went through numerous tests and X-Rays all with negative results, just bad bumps and bruises. The suspect was arrested at the scene and charged with one count of assault on a public servant F/3 (fleeing the scene of first accident and intentionally ran stop sign) and one count of intoxication assault on a police officer F/2. He is at Lew Sterret. There are reports circulating that officers went to the location where the suspect had been drinking and raided the place but that cannot be confirmed and that information was not given out by this office. The accident was not caught on the damaged squad cars dash cam. The passenger in suspect Jones vehicle was not injured but I do not know if he was arrested for public intoxication or not.
On 7/23/2010 at 10:35 pm, officers responded to a shooting call at 1303 Reynoldston (Atwell Middle School). Based on what witnesses told officers, there was a group of friends sitting on the steps of the school talking when an unknown aged black male suspect wearing a red shirt and black pants walked up and attempted to rob all the friends. The suspect fired one round into the air before demanding that all the friends give up their property. After the suspect grabbed what property he could (keys, phone, money) he began to run off. As he was running off he fired several more times back towards the group of people striking Keanan Demus B/M/22 in the eye causing serious injuries. He was taken to Methodist hospital and then to Parkland. Suspect is still at large. No other people were injured.
