Press release for Attempted Murder

Reference: Attempted Murder, First Degree Assault, Burglary, Simple Assault x2

On June 18, 2009, at 11:14 p.m. the Portsmouth Police received a 9-1-1 call from a residence on Holiday Drive, the caller reported a forced entry resulting in a stabbing. Portsmouth patrol officers responded to both the scene and the Portsmouth Regional Hospital where the victim of the stabbing was admitted.

Portsmouth Police Detectives, who were working a Sobriety Checkpoint, responded to assist with the investigation. It was determined that a domestic violence related assault occurred outside a Holiday Drive residence. The female victim fled to an apartment where others were present. At least two men entered the Holiday Drive residence without permission. One of the men was identified as:

Mr. Alperin is accused of assaulting a male subject once inside the apartment by punching him. Another male subject attempted to intervene and stop Mr. Alperin’s attack. It was at this time that Mr. Alperin is alleged to have stabbed the victim in the chest. Both of the intruders then fled the scene in a small blue Hyundai. Portsmouth Detectives announced a statewide alert to “Stop and Arrest” Mr. Alperin. He was located at a relative’s house in Newmarket, by the Newmarket Police Department.

Portsmouth Detectives arrested Mr. Alperin, and after consultation with the Rockingham County Attorney’s Office, have charged him with the following offenses:

Attempted Murder – Class A Felony
Burglary – Class A Felony
First Degree Assault – Class A Felony
Simple Assault – Class A Misdemeanor
Simple Assault – Class A Misdemeanor (Domestic Violence Related)

Mr. Alperin will be arraigned at the Portsmouth District Court during business hours later today.
