INDOT will prohibit traffic on Sim Hodgin Parkway beginning at 7 a.m. Monday. There will be barricades at Chester Boulevard and split barricades at Bridge Avenue/Sheridan Street. Limited business and residential access will be allowed from the west to the 900 block of the parkway—where full barricades will prevent further travel beyond the Boulevard Animal Clinic.

Construction supervisors for Milestone, the state’s contractor on the U.S. 27 Major Moves project, appeared before the Richmond Board of Public Works yesterday evening asking for permission to close Sim Hodgin Parkway. Concerned for public safety, the board approved a full closure at Chester Boulevard.

INDOT officials say excavation for full-depth pavement replacement on Sim Hodgin will create a severe drop off that endangers public travel through the construction site. This closure is expected to continue for 15 days.

INDOT’s $12.2 million reconstruction of U.S. 27 from just south of I-70 to north of the Whitewater River bridge—a distance of 2.5 miles—is widening Chester Boulevard to include a continuous left turn lane, new storm sewer trunkline, curbs, gutters and ADA-compliant sidewalks
