At approximately 10:45 this morning, our dispatchers received a call of a burglary in progress in 112 Gwendolyn Way in Garland County.



The caller told dispatchers that a white Honda Civic, with 2 black males and 1 white female in it, backed into the neighbor’s driveway.



The caller said a black male with a white shirt stayed in the parked car as the other black male and white female entered the house. They exited a short time later, got into the vehicle and drove away.



The caller was able to give a direction of travel and Deputy Phil Fisher located the suspects at the Family Exxon at the intersection of Airport and Adcock Roads. One of the suspects, Lee Counts Jr. 03/27/87 was pumping gas and when he noticed the Deputy, he walked into the store. As Deputy Fisher approached the car he observed the female, Brenda Paige Mann 07/23/91 sitting in the car and the third suspect, who gave the fictitious name of Jeremy Speed (who was later determined to be Jermaine Atkinson 02/06/89, an inmate that had recently escaped while being transported to Circuit Court), laying in the rear floorboard shoving jewelry under the passenger seat. All three were detained without incident.



The witness was brought to the scene and identified the three being detained as the suspects from the Burglary.



All three were taken into custody and transported to the Sheriff’s Department in separate vehicles. Once at the Sheriff’s Department, and as Deputy Fisher removed Atkinson from his patrol car, Atkinson struck Deputy Fisher in the chest with the handcuffs (which he had been able to circumvent for a second time on two separate occasions), pushed him back and then fled on foot.



Lee Counts Jr and Brenda Mann have been charged with Residential Burglary and Hindering Apprehension. Jermaine Atkinson was originally being held on charges of Residential Burglary, Theft of Property and Theft By Receiving over $2500.00 prior to his escape from Circuit Court. Atkinson is looking at additional charges of Residential Burglary, Escape and Criminal Impersonation.
