Home Invasion Suspect Arrested With Help From
GPS Tracking Bracelet

On Thursday, July 8, 2010, at about 1620 hours, Escondido Police Department received a call from a juvenile stating that someone was breaking into her house. The juvenile relayed to dispatch that several neighbors had chased the suspect away and the suspect was no longer in the apartment. When officers arrived, the neighbors stated that the suspect was known to them and that he lives in a neighboring apartment but he fled down the street. Through further investigation, officers discovered that the burglary suspect was outfitted with a GPS ankle bracelet due to a pending ICE deportation hearing. An ICE Agent partnered with an Escondido Police Officer was able to give specific directions and turn by turn instructions that tracked the suspect. With the help of ICE agents assigned to the Escondido Police Department, the suspect was located and safely taken into custody on the burglary charges. Without this technology and the assistance of the ICE Agent, the suspect would not have been located.
Officers arrested Jimmy Alexander Magadiaga, 22, of Escondido. Magadiaga was booked into Vista Detention Facility for PC 459, Residential Burglary, and an outstanding domestic violence warrant. An immigration hold was also placed on Magadiaga by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
The Escondido Police Department believes that there may be more residential burglary victims in Escondido where Magadiaga is the suspect. If you have any information, please contact the Escondido Police Department Dispatch Center at 760-839-4722 or the Anonymous Tip Line at 760-839-4973.
