Thousand Oaks Police to Increase Cell Phone Enforcement
Nature of Incident: Thousand Oaks Police to Increase Cell Phone Enforcement
Location: Thousand Oaks
Date: July 9, 2010
Unit Responsible: Thousand Oaks Traffic Bureau
Narrative:
The Thousand Oaks Police Department has continued to notice a high number of motorists misusing their cellular telephones while driving. Aside from some very specific exceptions, the use of cellular telephones without an approved hands-free device while driving is not only unlawful but it is a contributing factor in the cause of many traffic collisions.
Although we have been enforcing this statute since its enactment in 2008, the Thousand Oaks Police Department will begin making violations of this statute a priority by increasing enforcement efforts.
In addition to daily patrol enforcement, the Thousand Oaks Traffic Bureau will be conducting random cellular telephone enforcement operations. These operations will consist of traffic officers working together at specific locations and focusing primarily on cell phone violations.
The Thousand Oaks Police Department would like to remind all drivers to utilize hands-free devices while operating a vehicle. Drivers under the age of 18 years are prohibited from using cellular telephones in any manner while driving.
