Promotion to Sergeant

On July 6, 2010 the Portsmouth Police Commission voted unanimously to promote Detective John Peracchi and Detective Thomas Grella to the rank of Portsmouth Police Sergeant.

Sergeant Peracchi has been with the Portsmouth Police Department for 13 years. He has served as a patrol officer, as an investigator with the Attorney General's Drug Task Force, as the High School Resource Officer and as a felony investigator with the Portsmouth Detective's Division. He is the Department's polygraph examiner and was recently the recipient of the Police Department's Investigator of the Year Award.

Sgt. Peracchi holds a Bachelor's Degree in Behavioral Science and Criminal Justice. He has honorably served 4 years in the United States Navy. Peracchi coaches baseball and soccer in the seacoast. He is also a merit badge counselor for the Boy Scouts of America.

Sgt. Peracchi lives in the seacoast area with his wife and two children.

Sergeant Grella is a twenty year veteran of the Portsmouth Police Department. Throughout his seven years as a patrol officer he was a Field Training Officer, obtained many instructor level certifications, served on the Department's Accident Investigation Team, and began to show his interest in community organizations.

In his twelve plus years with the Detective Division, Grella has taken on many duties in addition to crime scene investigations to include the Juvenile Prosecution, the Coordinator for Seacoast Crime Stoppers and the Department's liaison with the Rockingham County Attorney's Office.

One of his greatest achievements is being one of the primary coordinators for the Citizen Police Academy. He graduated from the 93rd session of the New Hampshire Police Academy and has attended the New Hampshire Technical Institute and The Delinquency Control Institute at the University of Southern California. He enjoys hobbies such as fishing and golf and has served on the board of directors for local organizations such as Pro Portsmouth and the Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Seacoast. He is currently a member of Seacoast Rotary. He is married and lives locally.

Deputy Chief DuBois has assigned Sgt. Peracchi and Sgt. Grella to serve in the Patrol Division.
