Crime Report Mapping Comes to Florence
Crime Report Mapping Comes to Florence
The City of Florence Police Department is continuing the efforts in utilizing existing technology to increase its efforts in outreach to the community in launching a new community information service designed to deliver reliable and timely crime report information for Florence.
The service, created by CrimeReports.com, is in use in many cities in Oregon and around the country. The crimes reported are homicide, robbery, rape, burglary (breaking and entering), thefts, theft from a vehicle, vehicle theft and assaults. The crimes are plotted on a map of Florence.
To access this service, persons can go to the police department’s website at www.florencepolice.net and click on the small crime map to view this information. Persons can also go to www.crimereports.com and type in their address to see what is occurring around their homes. Individuals may also sign up for free email crime alerts as well.
According to Chief Sanders, “This is another excellent way for the Police Department to use existing technology to strengthen its partnership with our community in communicating crime information.”
CrimeReports.com is offering this service free to the City of Florence for a 12 month trial period. The normal charge for a police department is $99 per month and there is no charge to the public to use this service. The City of Florence will be evaluating the use of this method of public crime report mapping during the free trial period. Chief Sanders seeks feedback or comments for the assessment and evaluation of this new tool and its use.
