PRESS RELEASE: At this time the area of the fire has grown to 6,000 acres.

The Ventura County Emergency Operations Center has been activated due to the Guiberson Brush Fire. The fire began at about 10:40 hours. The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Ventura County Fire Department. Winds are estimated at 30 mph with temperatures over 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Department has launched both helicopters and has requested an Air Tanker to help with fire suppression. In addition, members from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department’s Tactical Response Team (TRT) have conducted mandatory evacuations for residents in the Broadway / Happy Camp area. Additionally, three Reverse 911 calls have been initiated for the same area, which advised residents to evacuate their homes along with their animals. A shelter has been established at the Goebel Senior Center located at 1385 E. Janss Road in Thousand Oaks. Small animals needing evacuation can be taken to the Ventura County Animal Regulation Simi Valley Facility, located at 670 W. Los Angeles Ave (805) 388-4341. Large animals needing evacuation can be taken to the Ventura County Fairgrounds located at 10 W. Harbor Blvd., Ventura (805) 388-4341.
