Check out pics from our most recent training day dealing with hazardous materials and chemical/biological exposure.

This month's training was mandatory recurring training on Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and dealing with hazardous materials. PPE consists of special suits and gas masks designed to be worn in the event of hazardous material events or incidents involving chemical or biological weapons.

Every officer in the state is issued a PPE bag to carry in their vehicle. As part of annual training, officers must don a "training suit" and their gas mask. The masks must be "fit-tested" and an instructor injects a noxious smelling chemical at them to ensure that their mask fits and seals properly.

The Sheriff's Office is fortunate to have Billy Broome on hand for this training. Billy retired as the Training Officer at the Lancaster Fire Department. He currently works for the Sheriff's Office as an Inventory Control Specialist and also serves as our Respiratory Protection Officer and Hazardous Materials Instructor.

Attached are pictures of officers undergoing the fit-testing procedure.
