38 Year-old woman, 5 year old boy attacked by dog

On 06-23-10 at approximately 4:18 PM the Lakeville Police responded to a 911 call from 4 Helen St. Lakeville. The resident of 4 Helen St. a 38 year old woman identified as Karen Bruno O’Leary was being attacked by her one year old American Bulldog.

Officer’s arriving on scene learned that a 5 year old boy had been attacked prior to their arrival and run out of the house.

An Officer was able to distract the dog away from the woman. At that time an Officer and Fire Department personnel were able to get the woman outside. At that time the Officer fired 3 rounds into the dog as the animal had lunged at that Officer.

The dog was wounded and began to turn its attention to the personnel working on the woman. Another Officer fired 6 rounds before the dog died. At that time the woman relayed information that the 5 year old boy had been bitten. Officer’s found him a short distance from the house as the boy had fled the home.

The boy had severe wounds to his face. The woman had severe wounds to her arm. The woman who was identified as Karen Bruno O’Leary was flown by med flight to Beth Israel Hospital in Boston. The boy was transported via ambulance to Morton hospital and then flow by med flight to Children’s Hospital in Boston.

According to Animal control no prior incidents involving the dog had been reported.
