Modesto Police Arrest Suspect for Severely Shaking 14-month Old Baby Girl

Modesto, CA- Modesto Police Detectives have arrested a 23-yr old Modesto resident for severely shaking a 14-month old baby girl. The baby is in stable but critical condition.

On June 8th, Modesto patrol officers and emergency personnel were dispatched to a residence in northwest Modesto for a 14-month old child having a seizure. The child was immediately transported to a local hospital and evaluated by medical staff. The child care provider Isaac Hayes Ramirez, a 23-yr old Modesto resident, initially reported the child was injured as she was playing with her two-year old brother. At the time, Ramirez was watching the two children, while mother was away.

Due to the extent of the 14-month old child’s injuries, she was transported to the Oakland Children’s Hospital for specialized treatment. The child was found to have the symptoms of shaken baby syndrome. Investigators have been follow-up on this case and have continued to speak to Ramirez regarding the circumstances surrounding the injury to the child. On June 11th, investigators developed enough evidence to arrest Ramirez for child endangerment.

Ramirez and his girlfriend are roommates to mother of the 14-month old girl and the 2-year old boy. Ramirez is the care provider of both the 14-month old girl and two-year old boy, while mother is at work. The two-year old child was not injured and is in the care of her mother.

Investigators are still following-up on this case and are working with the family. Both the mother and Ramirez’s girlfriend have been cooperative with the investigation.
