LOCAL BUSINESSES DONATE ALL TERRAIN VEHICLES TO POLICE DEPARTMENT.

Recognizing the difficulty the Readington Township Police Department has in reaching rural areas of this 48 square mile municipality, several local businesses pooled their resources to pay for the purchase of two all terrain vehicles. The vehicles, Polaris Sportsman 500cc ATVs, were purchased from Rollin’ Fast Cycles in Lebanon, NJ.

Sergeant First Class John Insabella spearheaded the effort to purchase new ATVs for the police department. Realizing the difficult budget times, SFC Insabella reached out to local business leaders to see if they would help defray the cost of the machines. To his surprise, these business leaders offered to shoulder the entire cost of the two machines valued at approximately $6,000 dollars each.

SFC Insabella stated, “I wasn’t expecting such an outpouring of support, just some help in offsetting the cost. These business owners went above and beyond what I expected! They understood the problems we have had in reaching calls in some of our rural areas, especially in inclement weather, and were more than happy to help.”

Readington Township has an extensive trail system used by hikers, horseback riders and other outdoor enthusiasts. The police department can use the vehicles to respond to help the injured and answer any calls that may come from these areas. Residents and visitors will be able to see the new ATV’s at the Annual Quikchek Festival of Ballooning held in July. The ATVs are an invaluable tool for policing the heavily attended festival.

Chief Sebastian Donaruma stated, “SFC. Insabella has consistently worked to better the Readington Township Police Department’s service to the public. His service to the public and rapport with local businesses is an asset to the township.”
