Northwest Regional Identity Theft Seminar
Celina, OH – In an effort to stem the rising rate of identity theft in Northwest Ohio, Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey and Auglaize County Sheriff Al Solomon are joining with Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray, the Federal Trade Commission, First Financial Bank, and Wright State University for the first Northwest Regional Identity Theft Seminar.
The seminar will be held over two days with training for law enforcement, financial institutions, and the general public.
On Tuesday, June 15 from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM, a forum will be held for the general public at the Dicke Center at Wright State University Lake Campus, 7600 Lake Campus Drive, Celina. “In Ohio and throughout Auglaize and Mercer Counties identity thieves are finding more and more ways to prey on the financially vulnerable,” states Sheriff Grey. According to the Federal Trade Commission Identity Theft is the fastest growing crime in the United States.
In 2009, the Ohio Attorney General’s Office received nearly 3500 calls from Ohioans with identity theft related issues. Ohioans are getting scammed and very few know the necessary steps for recovery.
“This is a combined training effort to get awareness out on this continuing problem in our Counties. We hope to not only give Law Enforcement continuing training on this, but to also keep Financial Institutions and the general public updated on the latest information on Crimes of this nature,” states Auglaize County Sheriff Al Solomon.
The forum on Tuesday evening will help citizens understand the pro-active steps to avoid becoming a victim and learn how to recover if they become a victim.
“We hope to have a good attendance, many times Identity Theft can be avoided or detected early which aids in the recovery process,” Stated Sheriff Grey. “We are trying to partner with our citizens so we can combat this growing problem together.”
First Financial Bank, Wright State University, and Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray have been a tremendous help in bringing this to our community. To register for the seminar contact the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office at 419-586-7724 or the Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office at 419-739-6565 ask for Mary Logan or Glenna Schmidt.
