Garland County Sheriff Larry Sanders received a phone call tonight from a fund raising organization stating that they were conducting a fundraiser for the Alabama Deputy Sheriff's Association. The caller said the money was going to be used to purchase bullet proof vests.

We have calls and emails in to Alabama organizations to try and confirm the validity of the fundraiser, but are not anticipating hearing anything back until Monday or Tuesday.

Although this may be a legitimate fundraiser, if you receive a similar call, Sheriff Sanders urges you to ask questions, ask for confirmation phone numbers of the responsible organization to validate the request and to be hesitant on sending money out of state unless you are comfortable that it is going where the caller says.
