Valero refinery is recognized for law enforcement support

Benicia Nixle Subscribers - below is an excerpt from an on-line Vallejo Times Herald article. The Benicia Police Department nominated the Valero Refinery for a California Peace Officers' Association (CPOA) Certificate of Appreciation.

BENICIA -- A state law-enforcement group recognized the Valero refinery Tuesday for its support of community policing efforts, Benicia police said.

Valero was recognized for funding such efforts as the Benicia Police Department's Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) Program and the recent upgrade of Solano County's police radio network, according to the conference brochure. The company also supports Benicia's police K-9 unit.

"Valero's continued support provides funding for a wide variety of programs," Benicia Police Lt. Mike Daley said. "They've enhanced our ability to keep our streets safe."

The California Peace Officers' Association granted the Certificate of Appreciation at its annual conference in Los Angeles. The three-day event runs through Thursday, with about 125 law-enforcement officials in attendance.

Representatives from both Valero and the Benicia Police Department attended Tuesday's awards luncheon, Daley said.
