Benicia Police Identify Armed Robber

Benicia Police Detectives have identified a Vallejo man as the one who robbed a convenience store on May 10th.

Detectives have secured a $250,000 arrest warrant for 24 year old Bryan Montgomery, who's last know address was in Fairfield. In addition, Detectives obtained a no bail warrant for a violation of probation charge as Montgomery is currently on probation out of Solano County for burglary and fraud.

On May 10th at 1:45 pm, Benicia officers responded to the Superstop Store, 816 Southampton Road in Benicia on a report that an armed robbery had just occurred. A masked suspect, armed with a handgun, approached the clerk while he was helping another customer and demanded money from both. During the incident, the suspect tried to discharge his handgun as he pointed it at the ceiling but the weapon did not fire.

The suspect then took cash from the register and the customer and fled to a waiting vehicle. The suspect was able to escape prior to police arrival.

A witness to the incident provided a vehicle description and a partial license plate for the getaway vehicle. Using information obtained from a diligent Benicia Dispatcher (Angela Knight) who obtained a correct license plate and registration information, Benicia Police Detective Kenny Hart interviewed various people and subsequently identified Montgomery as the alleged robber.

"Solving this crime is another example of how alert citizens and very diligent police work helps to keep our community safe," Benicia Police Lt. Mike Daley said. "The crime was reported quickly and witnesses came forward. Using just a small bit of information, Dispatcher Knight provided computer information to Detective Hart. Detective Hart then put the rest of the case together and identified a dangerous person who tried to fire his handgun during this robbery."

The warrant was issued and Benicia Police are asking for the public's help in locating Montgomery. Anyone with information is asked to call the Benicia Police Department at (707)745-3412 or CRIME STOPPERS at (707)644-STOP (7867). For additional information relative to this press release, contact Lt. Mike Daley at (707)590-4259 or via email. Attached is a Napa County booking photograph of Montgomery taken in October of 2009.
