Davie Police want to remind everybody to remain vigilant when it comes to protecting property in your vehicles.
Davie Police want to remind everybody to remain vigilant when it comes to protecting your property. This is especially true when it comes to property in your vehicles. We all seem to forget at times that our vehicle is our home away from home and become careless about safeguarding our personal items. Many of us keep all kinds of personal items in our vehicles such as family pictures, personal identification, documents which tell a criminal where you live and/or work, old bank receipts telling criminals where you bank, CD’s, DVD’s, jewelry, computer data, and school or office work. Some items can never be replaced and the loss can also result in higher insurance premiums. Criminals forcibly enter vehicles everyday taking items left in view. This may be one of the easiest crimes to prevent.
Amateur thieves roam the parking lot looking for the easy target. This would be a vehicle parked in an area that offers the thief some kind of concealment and will not easily be seen by people in the area. The vehicle may be parked between larger vehicles, by shrubbery, in a dark area of the parking lot or an area that is not well traveled. The vehicle may be unlocked or windows partially down. Personal property is left in plain view.
Do not make your vehicle an easy target. Remember to:
Close windows
Lock all doors
Activate your car alarm
Use a visual anti-theft device such as a steering wheel lock
Don’t leave your registration or other important documents in your car. Make photocopies and keep them with you
Avoid parking next to vans or other large vehicles
Park where your car will be visible to potential witnesses
Hide or take your valuables. Don’t leave valuables in plain view. Even loose change in the console will invite theft.
Avoid transferring items to the trunk of your car where it is going to be parked. Remember the thief may already be in the parking lot watching what you do
Never leave your engine running, even if you’ll only be a minute
Consider installing safety security film on your windows. With the film added to your glass it will be 300% to 400% stronger. Intruders must cut through this film, thus taking more time. This film is clear and reflects up to 98% of harmful ultraviolet rays
STAY ALERT! Be aware of what is going on around you.
Report all suspicious activity as soon as possible.
