Neighborhood Watch: TELL YOUR NEIGHBORS!

WHAT CAN NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH DO FOR YOU!

Neighborhood watch is a crime prevention program which enlists the active participation of citizens in cooperation with law enforcement to reduce crime in their communities.

It involves:

●Neighbors getting to know each other and working together in a program of mutual assistance.
●Citizens being trained to recognize and report suspicious activities in their neighborhoods.
●It includes the implementation of crime prevention techniques, such as home security, Operation Identification and others.

REMEMBER...

♦Call the police immediately. A five-minute delay means the chance of catching the criminal drops by two-thirds.

♦In many cases it is what victims and witnesses tell police about the criminal that results in an arrest. It is important to tell the police as much as you can. No fact is too trivial.

♦Sometimes, due to limited resources and personnel, the police may not be able to respond immediately. They have to prioritize their calls based on danger to human life involved. Don’t be discouraged. They will get to you as soon as possible.

Law Enforcement and citizens can work together in partnership to reduce crime.

There cannot be a law enforcement officer on every corner, so citizen involvement is essential to combat crime.

You and your neighbors are the ones who really know what is going on in your community.

By cooperating with each other and the police, people can help fight crime in their community in the most effective way -- before it begins!

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?

Tustin Home Owners/Renters
Tustin Condo Owners/Renters
Tustin Apartment Dwellers
Tustin Mobile Home Residents

IN SUMMARY.....YOU!

And finally, if a crime does occur...report it!

In order to hold a Neighborhood Watch:

If you live south of the 5 Freeway, you can contact PSO Ruby Ortiz at 714-573-3396.

If you live north of the 5 Freeway, you can contact PSO Marilyn Packer at 714-573-3391.

PSO Ortiz and I make up the fliers once a date, time, and location is decided. The fliers are distributed to the neighbors by the host/hostess, other neighbors, Property Manager, HOA board and/or Property Manager. The first Neighborhood Watch involves learning about the crimes that have occurred in your neighborhood and the surrounding area over the past six months. Crime prevention and resource information is supplied during the meeting and information on running a Neighborhood Watch is explained.

Once a formal Neighborhood Watch is formed, the Board members are invited to a Block Captains Board Network meeting twice a year. This is where all the Neighborhood Watch Board members are invited to a meeting to meet Chief Scott Jordan, Captains Celano and Lewis, the Area Commanders Lt. Strain and Lt. Garaven to discuss community issues and to have information on a timely topic provided by one of our Officers.

For additional questions please contact Marilyn Packer at 714 573-3391 or Ruby Ortiz at 714 573-3396.
