Bodies of Winter Haven Shooting Suspect and Victim Discovered in Orange Grove

The bodies of 57-year-old John “Jack” M. Nicholson, Perch Street, Winter Haven, and 21-year-old Kristy Lisenby, were discovered in an orange grove on the corner of Pearce Road and Lakeview Court, Winter Haven, at approximately 10:00 am this morning, Wednesday, August 26, 2009. The couple was the subject of a PCSO investigation which began yesterday after witnesses reported seeing Nicholson shoot Lisenby near a car dealership in Winter Haven.

At approximately 5:29 pm, Tuesday, August 25, 2009, witnesses said they observed an altercation between Nicholson and Lisenby in the roadway in front of Jarrett Gordon Ford, located at 3015 Lake Alfred Road (US Hwy 17), Winter Haven.

Witnesses told detectives they observed an older model SUV pull alongside a female, who was identified as Lisenby. Lisenby was observed walking to the vehicle, lean into the passenger window and at the same time, witnesses say they observed the driver, a male, raise an unknown type of gun at the victim. Witnesses reported hearing a gunshot. The driver was identified as Nicholson, who was reported to be Lisenby’s boyfriend, and with whom she was said to have been living.

Witnesses told detectives they then saw Lisenby fall to the ground. Nicholson then exited the SUV, walked around the vehicle, and picked up the victim, and placed her in the passenger seat. The suspect then drove away from the scene. Area hospitals were checked, and no one matching Lisenby’s description had been treated during the evening hours.

Just before witnesses reported the shooting, at approximately 4:30 pm, in the same area, a witness told PCSO detectives that Nicholson had pointed a firearm at another female who was an acquaintance of Lisenby’s, and demanded to know where Lisenby may be.

A warrant for Nicholson’s arrest was issued charging him with Aggravated Battery with a Firearm, and Aggravated Assault with a Firearm.

Nicholson prior criminal arrest history includes charges of Simple Assault, Robbery, Trespass, 2 Counts of Theft, Shoplifting and an unspecified Weapons Offense out of New Jersey during the early 1980s.

The bodies of both Nicholson and Lisenby were found alongside Nicholson’s gray 1991 Ford Explorer 2-door Sport which was parked near a stand of trees on the north perimeter of the grove.

A cause of death for both will be determined through autopsy. This is an ongoing investigation.
