Alarming Crime Trend Identified in Winchell Neighborhood
The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety is issuing a neighborhood advisory for the Winchell neighbor is reaction to an identified crime trend. The following four events profiled below precipitated this advisory:
#1) 5/7/10 around 3:00 PM
Subjects entered through OPEN garage door and stole bicycles. An alert resident of Winchell noticed several black male juveniles riding in the area and drop a bicycle helmet in the roadway, not picking it up. The resident picked up the helmet and located an address printed inside the helmet and went to that address. Noticing an OPEN garage door, they called KDPS. Sure enough... two bicycles were stolen from there.

#2 5/7/10 around 3:30 PM
Subjects entered through OPEN window and stole cash. This also occurred in the 2200 block of Aberdeen. There is no suspect info, but probably related to the above incident.

#3 5/11/10 around 9:30 PM
Subject rang door bell and advised he was looking for sister. Subject was a black male in his 20's. The caller thought it was strange and called KDPS. This occurred at 2500 block of Ferdon Rd He was not located...YET.

#4 5/11/10 @ 2145 hrs
Subject knocked on door and received no answer. The residents were home, but not expecting company. He then went to the back yard, at which time they called KDPS. A black male subject already on parole for breaking and entering was located and arrested for a parole violation. This occurred at 2700 block Kensington.

Area residents are reminded to keep there doors and windows locked and to be alert to strangers in and around their homes.
